    JP Duminy Bio & More

The real name of JP Duminy is ‘Jean-Paul Duminy’. He is commonly known as JP Duminy. He was born on 14 April 1984 in Western Cape. He is a South African cricket commentator, and former international cricketer. He was the vice-captain of the South African Twenty20 team. Duminy is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm off-spin bowler. Duminy, who is dark in colour, was raised in the Western Cape and played domestic cricket for his home team, the Cape Cobras. Duminy created history when he became the second South African to take a hat-trick in the Cricket World Cup, which he did against Sri Lanka during the 2016 tournament.

Duminy retired from Test cricket in September 2018 after playing 50 matches between 2007 and 2018. In May 2020, Duminy announced his retirement from domestic cricket and in July 2018, he retired from all forms of international cricket.

Duminy is generally a successful batsman at the top of the order, a skilful fielder and a useful change-up bowler. He came to prominence during the South African Under-19 tour of England in 2002 and the 2004–05 domestic season, where he averaged over 73, three years after joining South Africa’s Western Province team. Although he bowls sparingly in 2 Day Internationals, he has found success with the ball as well, making his ODI debut in 2005 against Sri Lanka.

Duminy made his Test debut against Australia at the WACA in Perth on 18 December 2009, replacing the injured vice-captain Ashwell Prince, scoring 51* in the second innings and sharing an unbroken century partnership with AB de Villiers. His performance was praised by many critics, including Peter Roebuck. In the next Test match, Duminy scored his second Test century, scoring 167 runs, along with tailenders. When South Africa lost their 8th wicket in the first innings, their score was more than 205 runs.

In the process, he and Dale Steyn put on an 185-run stand and surpassed Graeme and Peter Pollock’s record for South Africa’s ninth-wicket partnership against Australia. South Africa ended with a 63-run lead and converted it to a 10-wicket victory. This sealed the series, the second time that South Africa had won a Test series in Australia, and Australia’s first home Test series loss in 17 years. He also took his first Test wicket in the Fourth Test of the same tour.
