In 1016, Babar was selected for the Bangladesh Premier League franchise team Rangpur Riders, although he could not play due to some reason. In 2017, Babar played for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League and also Sylhet Sixers in the Bangladesh premier league.
In September 2019, Babar Azam was named as the captain of the newly formed Central Punjab team for the 2019–20 domestic season. On 13 May 2015 He made his first oneday International debut against Zimbabwe for Pakistan national team. Babar played a half-century of 54 off 60 balls in ODI debut match.
