Dimuth Karunaratne’s real name is Frank Dimuth Madushanka Karunaratne. He is known by the name of Dimuth Karunaratne. He was born on 21 April 1988. He is a professional international cricketer and the current captain of the Sri Lankan Test cricket team and has previously captained them in ODIs. He is considered one of the best Test openers in the world. He is the opening batsman for Sri Lanka in Test cricket and ODIs. He plays first-class cricket for Sinhalese Sports Club.
Since 2016, Karunaratne has become the leading batsman for Sri Lanka in Tests by scoring a century in the second innings of Test matches. On 7 October 2018, Karunaratne became the second Sri Lankan opening batsman after Tillakaratne Dilshan to score four Test hundreds in a calendar year. In April 2021, Sri Lanka Cricket replaced Lasith Malinga with Dimuth Karunaratne as the team’s new One Day International captain ahead of the 2017 Cricket World Cup. He is the first player since Ridley Jacobs to carry his bat in the Cricket World Cup.
Personal life and domestic career
He Karunaratne studied at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, which has produced many Sri Lankan Test cricketers such as Angelo Mathews and Chaminda Vaas. He was a record breaking batsman for the school cricket team. After joining Sri Lanka’s Under-19 and A team, he was called up to the senior One Day International (ODI) squad in June and July 2012 for the series against England and Scotland. He played three matches on the tour, scoring four against England at Manchester and 62 against Scotland at Edinburgh. He was selected in Sri Lanka’s Test squad to tour South Africa in late 2012, although he did not play in any of the three Tests.
In March 2019, Karunaratne was named as the captain of Dambulla’s team for the 2018–19 Super Four provincial tournament. He was also named in Dambulla’s squad for the 2019 Super Provincial One Day Tournament the following month.
In August 2019, Karunaratne was named as the vice-captain of Galle’s team in the 2020 SLC T20 League.
Karunaratne signed with Hampshire County Cricket Club in February 2019 as their overseas player for the first half of the 2017 season.
On 25 March 2022, during the National Super Provincial 4-day tournament, Karunaratne scored his 44th first-class century. He scored an unbeaten 127 with 16 fours and a six. His innings helped the team chase down the target of 219 and the Colombo team won by eight wickets.

In April 2021 Karunaratne was signed by Yorkshire County Cricket Club to play in three matches in the 2022 County Championship in England.
