Maxwell had a great passion for playing cricket since childhood. He started playing cricket at a very young age. Maxi started playing cricket with his school cricket team. He played many matches for his team junior South Belgrave Cricket Club and played excelled. Although Maxwell started his cricket as a fast bowler, later he turned into an off-spin bowler.
Maxwell joined the cricket club where he further improved his cricket skills and prepared for spin bowling and batting, after which he started playing domestic matches. In 2010, Maxwell began representing Victoria in the Twenty20 Big Bash, which was the beginning of his professional cricket career. He made his first-class debut for Victoria against New South Wales in 2010–11.
In his Debut matches, he played very well noticed by everyone. After that In the 2011 Emerging Players Tournament, Maxwell scored 59 runs off 23 balls against India. He played many domestic matches for various teams with his great performance in every match. Due to his Aggressive performance in Domestic get noticed by the Australian cricket Selectors and got a chance to play for the Australia National team.
Maxwell made his One Day International(ODI) debut for Australia on 25 August 2012 against Afghanistan Team. He made his T20 International debut for Australia on 5 September 2012 against Pakistan Team. After that, Glenn made his Test Debut for Australia on 2 March 2013 against India Team.
Due to his brilliant performance in domestic, He got a chance to play in Ipl Tournament. During the 2012 Ipl Tournament Maxwell was signed by the Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals) as a replacement for Travis Birt who was withdrawn from the squad. In the next 2013 Ipl auction Maxwell was bought by the Mumbai Indians at the price of 7 Crore Rs for the 2013 Indian Premier League. From 2014 to 2019 Ipl Auction He was Bought by the Punjab Kings at the price of 6 Crore Rs.
In the 2021 Ipl Auction, He was Bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the price of 14.5 Crore Rs for the 2021 Ipl Auction. In the 2023 Ipl Auction Glenn Maxwell was retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the price of 11 Crore Rs for the 2023 Indian Premier League.
