The full name of Matt Henry is Matthew James Henry. He is a New Zealand professional cricketer who plays for Canterbury and the New Zealand national team. He was born on (born 14 December 1991). He is a right arm fast-medium bowler. Henry was a member of the New Zealand team that won the 2020 -2021 ICC World Test Championship.

Education
He was educated at St Joseph’s School in Papanui and St Bede’s College in Christchurch before completing his sixth grade at St Joseph’s College, Ipswich, England, on a one-and-a-half-year scholarship.

Domestic and T20 career
Henry has been playing for Canterbury in New Zealand domestic cricket since 2012, making his first-class debut in March 2013 against Wellington in the 2011–13 Plunket Shield. He briefly played county cricket in England for Worcestershire in 2017. and played for Derbyshire in the 2018 NatWest T21 Blast and for Kent as their overseas player in the first half of the 2019 season before agreeing to return to play for the club at the end of the season.

After taking 8 wickets on his Kent debut against Gloucestershire, Henry achieved his best innings and match bowling figures against Durham in late April 2019. He took five wickets in Durham’s first innings and seven wickets in the third innings to record his first 12 wickets in a match. Figures of 13/78. Henry was awarded a Kent cap during his first stint with the club.

In February 2018, he was bought by the Kings XI Punjab team for the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) for INR 6 million. He previously signed for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL between 2015 and 2016, but did not play a match for the team.

In July 2020, he was selected to play for Edinburgh Rocks in the inaugural edition of the Euro T20 Slam cricket tournament. however, the tournament was canceled the following month. In November 2022, Henry was again signed to play for Kent, this time in England for the 2023 cricket season.

international career
Henry made his international debut on 31 January 2015 in the fifth ODI against India. He made his Twenty20 International debut for New Zealand against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates on 4 December 2015.

Despite not being selected in the final squad of 16 for the 2016 Cricket World Cup, he was selected as a replacement for Adam Milne in the semi-final match against South Africa at Eden Park. He went wicketless in the match, but in the final against Australia in Melbourne, Henry showed serious pace and took two wickets of David Warner and Michael Clarke. He holds the record for the highest partnership for the 9th wicket for New Zealand in ODIs as of March 2019, opening the batting with Jimmy Neesham, adding 85 runs as a pair against India in 2017.

Henry’s Test debut for New Zealand came in May 2016 during the touring England side.

In May 2019, he was one of twenty players to be awarded new contracts by New Zealand Cricket for the 2019–21 season. He was named in New Zealand’s squad for the Cricket World Cup in April 2020. On 3 July 2020, Henry played his 51st ODI in the match against England. In the first semi-final, New Zealand beat India by 19 runs, with Henry taking three for 38 and being named player of the match.

In the first match against South Africa in February 2023, Henry took his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket with 6/24.

In March 2023, Henry was named in New Zealand’s ODI and T20I squads to tour Pakistan. On 16 April 2023, in the first T20I, he became the fourth New Zealand cricketer to take a hat-trick in T20Is.
